When trying to put an AVI. file into Windows Movie Maker this comes up?

"cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again."

This has never happened before, I always use the Divx codec to import .AVI files and it always works, I don't see what the problem is now and yes I have restarted the computer to no avail.

Any ideas?

For the XP version, the accepted formats are wmv, asf, mpg (mpeg-1), avi (dv-avi), wma, wav, vob and mp3. For the Windows Vista Home Premium and Ultimate editions of Movie Maker support importing MPEG-2 Program streams and DVR-MS formats.

In order for you to download movies from youtube, you would need to copy paste the url of the video to the website http://www.keepvid.com. The video will be downloaded in flv format. Next is you would have to convert the flv file usig the program total video converter.

I can't view a saved project in Windows Movie Maker?

Yesterday I was making this video combining scenes from a videogame with some music, and then I decide I'd finish it today and so I save it as it was. Now I want to finish it, but when I try to open the MSWMM file, I cannot play nor view the project in the preview screen. It does show me all the scenes and stuff in the Timeline, but when I click the play button nothing happens. What can I do? I don't think AAC format is std supported in Media Player. You would either need to use iTunes / Quicktime or another AAC compatible player, or download a specific codec for Media Player in order to have it play AAC files. The first answer is wrong, that's not the way of doing it.

The correct way is the following.

Step 1:

Have your file opened in windows movie maker

Step 2:

once your happy with your video, look to your left and find the subheading "Finish Video"

Step 3:

Under that subheading click the link "save to my computer"

Step 4:

Follow the simple save instructions, click the high quality, which is best for You Tube.

Step 5:

Upload this NEW file to You Tube.

You Tube will allow this new file because you saved it as a format fit for viewing properly...

I'm no Movie Maker expert but I've just fired it up and did the following.

Turn the timeline on. View menu%26gt;timeline.

Drag your photo onto the start of the video timeline at the bottom of the screen or right click and select "add to timeline".

Under edit on the left select "Titles and credits".

Select "Title on the selected clip".

Type your text and hit add title.

On the timeline you should see your photo at the start of the video timeline and your title text under it on the title overlay timeline.

Select your photo on the timeline and press play.

Your text should appear over the photo with a nice fade in and out effect. While it's playing you should be seeing a vertical green line moving along the timeline at the bottom of the screen.

You can click on your text box on the timeline and drag it so it appears later in your movie or right click and edit it to change the text. You should be able to add multiple photos and text titles to your movie.

Last month, I downloaded k-lite codec pack for some software I was using at the time. Last night I removed the codec pack. During the uninstall process, a series of little boxes came up asking me if I wanted to remove various dll files and I said yes to all. Bad idea, I know, I was stupid. Anyway, later when I tried to open windows movie maker, I'd get a little box saying "xvidcore.dll not found" a few times, and then I'd get the notice that wmm had a problem and needs to close, and it would. Sending error reports gave me no solutions. Tonight I reinstalled K-lite and now it no longer tells me that xvidcore.dll is missing, but wmm still keeps closing on me. I'm trying to get a project done and I'm in the middle of it. What do I do?

Not a big deal, go to start (settings) control panel, add remove programs and delete Moviemaker.

You'll be pleased to know this IS possible- because I do it all the time.

All your music in iTunes has to be saved into a folder on your PC, if your iTunes organizes this for you (and most iTunes's do) this is relatively easy, if not, read the last paragraph bit lol

1. Let's say you want to make a movie video with the song 'Umbrella' by Rihanna.

a) This is simple, go to your documents

b) Click on 'My Music'.

c) Open the 'iTunes' folder.

d) Open the 'iTunes Music' folder.

e) Look for the folder named Rihanna.

f) Open the album which the song is located in. You now know where to find the music.

g) Open Windows Movie Maker and click 'import sound or audio' under the 'tasks' section. Go through the whole process above (sometimes it will not import the movie because the file is 'corrupted' or not an mp3 file, in this case choose another song.).

h) And then just drag that thumbnail onto the timeline. It's a pretty simple process.

If your music is NOT under my music, itunes etc. you may want to search it or you can just open the song on iTunes and the main page of it should tell you which files its in, all you need to do then is find those files.

well you can't "directly" upload your video if it is in a format that is not supported by windows movie maker. A lot of times when you are trying to upload or import videos from a camera on windows movie maker, the videos you have are usually not in wmv or avi which are compatible with the software. So you will need to take your videos and find a video converter and convert it to either avi or wmv before you upload them to windows movie maker. If you want something free, you can do an advanced search to narrow it down and only search for something free or go to www.freewarefiles.com and do a search there.

it did not let you because windows movie maker automatically makes its videos in a file format called MSWMM which is not accepted and is not valid on youtube

follow these steps to get your video to work on youtube:

-open windows movie maker

-press 'import audio/video'

-import the video you wanted to upload

-drag it to the time line

(this next bit is important in getting it to work in an accepted video format)

- when you have finished and want to save it, you must press 'PUBLISH MOVIE' at the top of the screen near the middle

-then press 'PUBLISH TO THIS COMPUTER'

-name the video

-save

now it will save to your video folder and will also convert to a WMV format which is accepted by youtube,and is one of the most commonly used so it works easy

after the video has finished converting and saving do the following

-open youtube

-sign in

-press upload

-fill in the video info

-upload the video making sure you do not choose the one that you had in the MSWMM format

now wait on the upload screen until it says 'upload successful, the video will be available from 'my videos' once it has finished processing'

I am not able to import any thing I captured on dazzle to windows movie maker.

I got the pinnacle dazzle analog input for my computer. It was to upload video's from my old Hi-8 camcorder to my computer than to DVD.

So far I have had no problems getting the video to my computer and then up on you tube, however I have wasted about 5 blank DVDs b/c of some rendering error when I use the DVD record feature with the dazzle program. I have had no success with that. They say something is wrong with my recorder or I am using the wrong DVDs but I'm not. The program is glitch. However if I pay for the upgrade I can get a better DVD program.

Rip off considering that is what I already paid for.

I now have a Sony hdd-sr200 and the Sony program is very easy to get the video's onto my computer, but it does not come with editing software, and when I import to windows movie maker I am numerous problems as in shaking picture, no sound , and the clip automatically flipping upside down.

Is there a way to turn off the auto-clipping of videos that you import into windows movie maker. It really annoys me when I import a ten minute video and it makes 100+ clips. I'd like to make my own clips, not have them choose where the clips are. I know you can combine them after it's done importing, but it'd be a lot better if you could just turn it off so it imports into one file instead of Movie01, Movie02, Movie03...Movie99, Movie100, etc.

Yes, it's easy. When you click import video, at the new window (where you have to select file types and click open) uncheck "Create clips for video files". This way you'll have one full movie, no matter how long it is.

This problem could be related to your processor, Hard Drive and/or RAM Size. Video takes up a lot of Hard Drive space. Also, it could be the form you are capturing in. Always use a Firewire Cable, never a USB Cable. Below I am putting information on Firewire I answered another question with.

-For this process you will need a Firewire Cable (sometimes referred to as an IE 1394). This will be avaliable at most Electronics Store. For a laptop you will generally need a 4-pin (Laptop End) to 4-pin (Camera End) connector. For a Desktop it is generally a 6-pin (Desktop End) to 4-pin (Camera End).

-Once you have your camera hooked up, open a Video Editing Program on your computer. Generally Windows will come with Movie Maker (located under accesroies), or on a Mac you have IMovie.

-In either of these programs, depending on your Operating System, open the capture tool. If you have properly connected your camera, and have it turned on, in Playback Mode (VCR Mode), you should see it now on the computer.

***NOTE: It is usually best to turn plug in the camera, turn it on and put it in Playback mode before starting the capture tool in the program.

-Once you see it on the screen, you should have a button that either says record, or looks like the record button. Press this, and the camera should start playing and recording to your comptuer. If the camera does not automatically start playing, press play on it.

-Once you are finished bringing in files, hit stop on your PC. You now have these files on there, most likely in an AVI format (The Highest Quality).

-You can then edit and manipulate it however you want, and export it as a movie. To put longer movies on the internet or DVD, you will probably have to downsize it to MPEG-1 or MPEG-2. This is another problem for another day.

limewire downloads the music to your shared file on your hard drive, copy the songs you want to import to Movie Maker to another folder (suggestion: my documents%26gt; my music). Then back to Movie Maker and click on import music and locate the folder my documents%26gt; my music and choose the song to import.

Finding the shared folder:

1. You can find your shared files by right clicking on the start button.

2. choose explore

3. click on the plus sign next to each of the following to expand: Local disk (C)%26gt; documents and settings%26gt; your name%26gt; shared.

Explorer may open with most of these already expanded and you may only have to open shared.

To copy songs:

1. right click on the song you want and choose copy.

2. go to the folder you want to store this song and open it.

3. right click anywhere on the white page and choose paste.

If you would like to copy all songs in the folder:

1. highlight the first song on the list

2. press the shift key on the keyboard and hold it

3. scroll to the last song and click on it (now you can let go of the shift key) this will highlight all songs.

4. right click any one of the songs and choose copy

5. open the folder you want to copy to and right click and choose paste.

If your mp3s are downloads, you may be s.o.l.. I believe that downloaded I-tunes can only be and will always be I-tunes - in other words, can't do much else with them. If you ripped the tunes from cds, then the whole picture changes, you have a whole lot of options and should be able to do whatever you want with them.

I am not familiar at all with limewire downloads, but it may be a similar problem.

If your camcorder and computer do not have Firewire connections, than you will need a video capture card or USB Hardware. I currently use a Hauppauge device. The device comes with the required software for video capture.

I created a slide show in Windows movie maker. I need to import it toIntervideo win DVD (or another program)and burn onto DVD. I keep getting an error message "The file can not be imported, make sure it's a valid file type and the contents have not been corrupted" I save it in every MANY different file types(high quality large/small/ broadband/ for local playback, etc) I decided to see if a files were corruped. I scanned the files and found a song that contained a virus, had the file quarentined and removed from the slide show. Any ideas or suggestions. Are all of the files corrupted bc of that song??? I went out and purchased another progran Roxio Easy CD and DVD Burning and it still won't allow me to burn/error message. I can view the final product on my compure in Real Player and it looks fine. So why can't I import it to another file or Burn onto CD. It's for a memorial service at 7:00 pm. Need help fast. :(

No its even simpler than that. Go to the timeline view (which I guess you're already in). Select your video track, and click on the little plus sign right beside "Video." This will expand your video's audio track. Then just right click that audio track and click mute. Hope this helps!

First save the contents of the digicam to the PC, then at explorer - check the file extension name of the video. You're in luck If it's mpeg. Then Open WMMaker, import video and do what you like to do.

If it's of other file extensio name, then You'll need another software, a video converter to convert the video (it's 3gp probably) into avi/wmv/mpeg format (only format read by WMMaker). Only then you can import it to WMMaker to either edit, add subs, music or whatever.

Suggest you use Xilisoft or Avex video converters. Many are free from the net but with limitations depending on who made it.

ok, i tried this before and it worked really well! all you have to do is save the video that you have on your computer. kodax probally has a program to use for it. so anyway, just save your video and open windows movie maker. on the left side, you will see the little menu bar thing. find the category that says "get videos" or something like that. click on that and press open my video. then open it up. it is kinda self explanatory, once you have your video saved. i hope i helped!
