When trying to put an AVI. file into Windows Movie Maker this comes up?

"cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again."

This has never happened before, I always use the Divx codec to import .AVI files and it always works, I don't see what the problem is now and yes I have restarted the computer to no avail.

Any ideas?

It's not DivX encoded.
The avi format is not supported by any microsoft media players pretty much, get VLC media player. it plays everything,

and for the microsoft movie maker thing, try converting your video to mpg format, google video convertors
Yup, trying typing in AVI players i guess..
