Why can't i import this avi file into windows movie maker?

when i try it says: ".avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again."

what do i have to do to fix it?

Might also want to install the WMP 9 series Codec Pack from: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows...

Make sure you select your correct version of Windows Media Player. If I am not mistake, Windows Movie Maker will use these same codec's.
